PRESCHOOLERS IN THE MUSEUM

Can contemporary art
arouse the interest of children?

Can preschoolers
have a good time in a museum?

Is it possible to become an artist
or curator at the age of 5?

Wrocław Contemporary Museum
has just one answer
to these questions – YES!

Challenging to interpret and sometimes inappropriate for the youngest visitors, works shown at contemporary art institutions may make it difficult to visit a museum with young children. In order to address the needs of all our guests, we have prepared an offer suited to the needs of preschoolers.

THE WORKSHOPS OFFER

Description of the workshop
FOREST CREATURE

Inside the forest there is beauty and mystery. Tree trunks with eyes, whispering twigs, surprising shapes emerging from entangled greenery – all of them remind us that forests are inhabited not only by animals and plants. Bereginias, bogunkas or borutas are just some of the names of these beings, and there are many more… They may lead wanderers astray, cure people or rule wild creatures. This is what we will talk about during the workshop. We will meet the mysterious inhabitants of forests and find out who its protective spirits are. In the practical part, the participants entering the “forest” will have a chance to create their own spirits, feel the scent of a pine tree, listen to birdsongs and other sounds made by forest creatures. During a manual exercise, the young artists will design and make their own masks of forest spirits while deriving inspiration from the installation at the Self-service Museum.

The workshop uses the interactive installation Spirits of the Forest, which was made by Patrycja Mastej and Magdalena Skowrońska on the basis of Anna Nowak’s original scenario.

Description of the museum lesson
FEEL THE FOREST

The first part of the lesson is held in the colourful space of Beautiful Tube, where, during the multimedia presentation, we will talk about who and what lives in the forest, what we should and shouldn’t do there, which senses make it possible to most fully experience the forest, and what secrets plants and animals hide. During the presentation we will solve some puzzles and talk about forest creatures – bereginias, bogunkas or borutas, which, as legend has it, can be met in wild forests. After that we will visit the Self-service Museum, give free rein to our imagination and make our own “forest creatures” while playing with the interactive installation Spirits of the Forest.

The workshop is based on the interactive installation Spirits of the Forest, which was made by Patrycja Mastej and Magdalena Skowrońska.
