Why do artists need a sense of humour and sisterhood? What does female passivity mean according to Laura Mulvey? Did women artists from Wrocław polemicise with each other? In what sense did Natalia LL’s practice precede theories of feminism? These are some of the questions that we will address during the thematic tours of the States of Focus exhibition. We invite you to join us on selected weekends.

An ugly word beginning with F
The tour will focus on works that foster discussion about feminist theories and outline differences in how this trend has been presented over the years. The meeting will be led by Jolanta Jaskuła, a student of cultural studies at the University of Wrocław.

Following women artists from Wrocław
During the second thematic tour we will try to capture the specificity of art created by female artists from Wrocław. What links and what divides the creative attitudes of Natalia LL, Anna Kutera, Jolanta Marcolla, Anna Płotnicka and Ewa Zarzycka? The meeting will be led by Natalia Gaj, an art history student at the University of Wrocław.
— 4.05.2019 (Saturday)
Scopophilia, image, self-observation – from female passivity to creative activity
In May we will examine the works presented at the exhibition States of Focus with respect to the artists’ creativity in the process of playing intellectual games with their own image. The meeting will be led by Iga Pękala, a PhD student at the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication at the University of Wrocław, a graduate of Cultural Studies and Journalism and Social Communication.

The disarming power of women’s art
Women artists express their opposition, voice demands, proclaim their own opinions. How do they do it, what means do they use, are they always serious? The meeting will be led by Julia Langosz, an art history student at the University of Wrocław.Published on:29.03.19 Uwaga! Wstęp na wystawę
