Landscape, portrait, art and history. Discussion revolving around the exhibition “Ignacy Czwartos. The Polish Painter” 10.05.19 (piątek), godz. 17.30, parter, wstęp bezpłatny (Friday), 5.30 pm, ground floor, admission free

Wrocław Contemporary Museum invites you to a discussion accompanying the exhibition Ignacy Czwartos. The Polish Painter.

Works by Ignacy Czwartos are often surprising and perversely witty. The artist’s extensive knowledge of art history allows him to reduce the familiar landscape to a nonrepresentational formula or to freely juggle with quotes from old, especially Baroque, painting. Czwartos’s reinterpretations also concern topics such as portrait, art and recent history. The discussants, including Piotr Bernatowicz and Andrzej Saj, will focus on some of the threads connected with the exhibition and the artist’s attitude.

The meeting will be moderated by Dr Andrzej Jarosz, the curator of the exhibition.
Dr Piotr Bernatowicz is an art historian and critic, exhibition curator, lecturer at the Institute of Art History at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, former editor-in-chief of the Arteon magazine. In the years 2014-2017 he was the director of the Arsenał City Gallery in Poznań.

Dr Andrzej Saj is an art critic, exhibition curator, founder and editor-in-chief of the “Format” magazine, lecturer at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, a member of the artistic council of the Lower Silesian Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.
