Booktalk is a form of short talks which have been practised since the beginning of the last century and aim at persuading the audience to read books. The series of meetings entitled Booktalk – talks about photographic books, although in its form it departs from the original model, will have a similar role – in this case “reading” photographic books. The meetings will involve a free discussion with authors, publishers and book designers, opened to an interaction with public. There will be a special online guest taking part in every meeting.
Photographic books have become an increasingly popular discussion topic in Poland. But is it popular enough? The “photo-books” boom which has started in the West a few years ago slowly reaches Poland. What is the reality of creating, publishing and selling photographic books in our country like? Artists apply different publishing tactics: limited series, fundraising, self-publishing, affordable photo-books, zines, or print on-demand. Which of them have a chance to succeed in our conditions and which of them can contribute to popularisation of photographic books in Poland? We will attempt to answer these and other questions during the discussion with our guests.
The second part of our meeting will be held in English. Jason Fulford from JanL Books publishing house will be our special guest. Jason Fulford is not only a publisher and editor, but also an author of books that combine philosophical thought with humour. They include “Crushed” or “Mushroom Collector”.
During our meeting we will ask Jason what is photo-book publishing process like in the United States, about his publishing plans for the near future, as well as his newest book and the second life of the mushroom collector.
