On Friday, 24 June, at 6 p.m. we would like to invite you to a meeting with artist Jerzy Olek, whose exhibition 1 + 0 = 10. (de)CONSTRUCTION of (non)SENSE is currently showing at MWW. The meeting will be hosted by MWW director Dr Sylwia Świsłocka-Karwot.
Jerzy Olek (b. 1943) is an artist and art theorist who works mainly in the field of photography and multimedia art, specialising in the psychophysiology of vision and new media. He was the driving force behind expansive and media photography (1970s) and elementary photography (1980s). Originator and curator of exhibitions in Poland and abroad, founder of the famous Foto-Medium-Art gallery of intermedia art. He has written numerous articles published in magazines in Poland and abroad. In his artistic practice, he focuses on subjective depictions of space through drawing, photography, mirror reflection, graphics or computer printing, creating as a result complex visual structures and installations.
During the meeting, the artist will talk about the Foto-Medium-Art gallery – a legendary place on the cultural map of Poland, which from the very beginning went beyond the traditional understanding of a gallery, looking for links with film, video, new technologies, architecture, music and current theories of culture.
