“Eyes Wide Open”
Cinema on the roof
(Sunday), 8.30 PM, open-air screening on MWW roof, free tickets
Aaron runs a kosher butcher shop in an ultra-orthodox part of Jerusalem. With his wife and four sons, he leads a calm, devout life. One day, it is disturbed by the appearance of a lost soul – Ezri, a student who awakens forbidden feelings in Aaron. The director explores the moral boundaries of his own religion by conducting a meticulous, mature investigation. He skillfully grasps the duality of living in a small community, where there is no such thing as free will. People may show consideration for others, but their goodness is never selfless. The film is a masterpiece that cautiously studies the hidden tensions that are present in any community.
