A film screening, lasting over an hour, will be hosted by Alicja Jodko, the artistic director of the Children’s Film Workshop. The program will feature award-winning group and individual films by participants in the DWF workshops, which – in a completely unconventional way – convey both their own reflections and ideas and adapt well-known literary works, fairy tales, proverbs, and even events from ancient and modern history.
DWF films are created using a wide variety of stop-motion animation techniques ranging from the simplest cartoons and cut-outs, through puppet animation, to the completely unique clay relief, bent wire, non-camera celluloid scratch animation, and creative, experimental techniques of their own devising. DWF films feature original soundtracks, which were often co-created by children. For many years, DWF enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with the Wrocław-based group Małe Instrumenty [Small Instruments]and MI’s compositions have become an integral part of over a dozen DWF films.
During the screening, Alicja Jodko will talk about how these unique films were made, share various anecdotes from the set, and reveal a few secrets of stop-motion animation..
Children’s Film Workshop (DWF) is an original film animation workshop for children and teens that teaches how to make animated films using stop-motion techniques. DWF began operations in 1986 and, for 35 years, was run by Alicja and Mariusz Jodko at Wrocław’s Entropia Gallery, producing original films by very young creators, introducing participants to the history and works of the genre, and organising meetings with prominent figures in Polish animation – such as Piotr Dumała, Witold Giersz, Jerzy Kucia, and Daniel Szczechura. Above all, DWF provided children with the opportunity to take on the role of creators and shift their attitude from a passive, consumerist stance to an active engagement with their surroundings, culture, and the media.
DWF productions have received numerous awards at domestic and international film festivals, as well as a prestigious honor in the field of amateur film – the UNICA Gold Medal (World Union of Amateur Film under the patronage of UNESCO). DWF films have been featured in dedicated programs on TV Kino Polska and TVP Kultura, as well as at art centers (including Kino.Lab at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Art Factory in Łódź, the National Forum of Music, and New Horizons Cinema in Wrocław).

Alicja Jodko Alicja Jodko – philosopher, curator of contemporary art exhibitions and film screenings, initiator of artistic projects, co-founder of the Entropia Gallery (1988) – a cultural institution of the City of Wrocław – and co-founder and artistic director of Children’s Film Workshop (1986–2021), an original animated film workshop for children and youth. Expert at the Polish Film Institute in the field of animated film (2006–2017). Active in many creative fields – including visual poetry, mail art, experimental and animated film, visual arts, and the philosophy of art (critical writings, including in Obieg, Format, and Szum). Together with her husband Mariusz, she received the “Emocje” award by Radio Wrocław Kultura in the visual arts category (2018) and the Diament Wrocławia [Wrocław Diamond] award for the Entropia Gallery (2024).
For many years now, she has been working with her husband, at a leisurely pace and with great pleasure, on two independent, personal film projects – Alicja tu i tam and Ulissea – moving between film genres, employing a variety of animation techniques, and utilising various film media, including celluloid.
