A Situation Involving a Thing with a Hole A Situation Involving a Thing with a Hole is a one-day performance art programme and exhibition featuring artists who, drawing on the identity of the place, construct a narrative at the intersection of gesture, the history of violence, and architecture. The museum’s distinctive structure serves as both a starting point for artistic interventionsand a space for negotiating memory and contemporary interpretations of it. The titular “thing with a hole” is an attempt to ironically name and breach the existing order inscribed in the architecture of the site, taking into account its historical and violent context. It is also a reference to the artistic practice of one of the invited artists, which opens the field to multiple interpretations. All the artists participating in the project engage with the concept of shelter and its ambivalent nature in their work.The shelter – a category rooted in the experience of war and threat – is here reimagined as a space for preserving the contemporary body of work by young artists. On the one hand, it serves a protective function, acting as a shield against the challenges of the present; on the other, it becomes a laboratory for repetitive, almost mantra-like gestures that reveal the agency of ephemeral actions. All the invited artists come together in a single exhibition hall, transforming it into a labyrinth of performative actions. Their works overlap, creating a space in which individual gestures, presences, and narratives intermingle. Instead of autonomous presentations, a shared, multilayered performative situation emerges, in which the viewer moves between successive chapters of the visual text.

It’s time to celebrate the museum's birthday! It’s time to celebrate what was,what is, what...Well, exactly. What will be? Dróżdż didn’t provide an answer. And yet, Derda, balloons in hand, invites us to celebrate possible futures together.
Leandra:
Time to let some air in: open nonexistent windows onto the landscape of change surrounding the museum building. Leandra will present a live electronic music performance, using archival materials, interviews, and collages of found footage. She will bring the voices of passersby, bursts of delight and disappointment, into the space. She will archive a phone conversation, an unpleasant romantic incident, and the traces of fascism creeping into our surroundings.

Magdalena Tryba:
Working in a museum is like operating at the intersection of choreography and the archive. It’s like a series of logical pirouettes, a dance performed against the backdrop of history. Magdalena Tryba plays with contrasts of scale and visibility, juxtaposing the museum’s monumental cylindrical form with found small objects with holes: a button, a cap, or a small knick-knack. In this way, she shifts the focus to the microscale and the stories of objects that are almost imperceptible in everyday life. In a mantra-like gesture, the artist will compile a record of new finds in her collection of objects with holes. In doing so, she will uncover the artistic potential in the trash left on the streets along the way to buy bread or in search of fulfilment.
Anna Yena:
Where to take shelter? In a shelter. How to make a change? With your own hands. How many monuments should there be? As many as there are citizens in the country. Anna Yena refers to the current situation in Kharkiv – a city consumed by the self-proclaimed defense of language and sculptures. In her performance, the artist will embody the practices of protecting Ukrainian monuments and language.

Marcin Derda – sculptor, performer, and creator of installations and videos. A graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 2025, he earned his degree in sculpture in the studio of Prof. Grażyna Jaskierska-Albrzykowska and completed a Diploma Appendix in painting in the studio of Prof. Łukasz Huculak. Recipient of scholarships and awards in art competitions, including: the Art of Passage – best graduation projects at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław 2025), a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2020), the Mayor of Wrocław (2021, 2024), the OP_YOUNG mentoring program (2023), first prize and an honorable mention in the Super Forma competition (2022, 2024). His works have been presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He currently lives and works in Wrocław and Konin.
Natalia Kubik aka Leandra electronic music artist, DJ, and producer. She is currently a student at Szkoła Muzyki Nowoczesnej we Wrocławiu. She performs and creates out of a passion for everything that’s hard to define, for experimentation, play, and the courage to push musical boundaries. Leandra captivates her audience by blending musical extremes while always prioritising high-quality sound. The music she loves breaks traditional structures and carries the promise of discovering something new. She has performed at festivals such as Unsound, Ephemera, Spokój, Ravekjavik, and WROsound, and her mixes have been featured on numerous platforms, including London’s foundation.fm, Italy’s Linea Radio, and Poland’s Oramics, Destitute, and Radio Kapitał. Leandra actively contributes to and supports the local music scene. She founded the BITE collective (2018–2023), focused on promoting women and non-binary people in the Polish underground scene. On Radio Luz, in her original show Momentum, she shared her love for club culture. She currently works as a curator and booker at the Wrocław club Uczulenie.
Magdalena Tryba a graduate of the bachelor’s (2023) and master’s (2026) programs at the Faculty of Intermedia at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. From 2023 to 2024, she studied in the Contemporary Culture Laboratories master’s programme at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication at Jagiellonian University. In her artistic practice, she focuses on the phenomenon of collecting, treated as a form of performance embedded in everyday life. For her, found materials and objects serve as a medium for speculative narratives and a starting point for creating assemblages, objects, installations, videos, and performative actions. Since 2022, she has been working at the Academy of Fine Arts Gallery in Kraków as an assistant, and since 2023 as a curator of the ASAP Student Gallery. She is a co-founder of the independent SN2022A Gallery in Kraków, as well as the Brut Collective. She is a collector, both privately and professionally.
Anna Yena Ukrainian intermedia artist who works primarily in the field of performance art. She currently lives and works in Poland. Her practice focuses on issues of cultural belonging, both verbal and nonverbal communication, as well as social and collective emotionality. She has exhibited her work at venues including the Bielska BWA Gallery, BWA SOKÓŁ, and the Centre for Performing Arts of the Grotowski Institute. She is this year’s distinguished graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and a graduate of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.
Michał Kowalczys born in 2001 in Gdańsk. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Currently a student at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He creates texts, performances, videos, and installations. In his artistic practice, he draws on his own identity, treating autofiction as a critical tool. He uses language as the medium of art, combining avant-garde traditions of spoken performance with a queer perspective. Michał’s works have been presented at the Vor/Wiosna festival at the Slaturhusid Art Center in Iceland (2021), Kick Off Perfo at Galeria Ul in Gdańsk (2021, 2023), Gdynia Design Days (2023), Performance Platform Lublin at the Labirynt Gallery in Lublin (2024), Wrocław Off Gallery Weekend (2024), and Cracow Art Week Krakers (2025, 2026). He was one of the winners of the Deep Water mentoring project (2022) organised by the Gdańsk City Gallery.
